Thanksgiving Leftovers - Quilt Country

Let’s face it, leftovers are a reality after Thanksgiving… and, I’ll admit it, they are one of my favorite parts of Thanksgiving.

At our house, these days, Jeffrey handles the Holiday meals and his gravy is pretty good, but I’m not sure I’ll ever look at turkey gravy without thinking about Sandy’s story!

However, my Mom would be proud of her since one of Mom’s favorite saying is *In THIS family, we EAT our mistakes!* LOL

THANKSGIVING LEFTOVERS
Baked Cheese Tortellini
When my husband and I were first married he was assigned to a small base in Belgium. We invited new friends including a lovely Belgian couple.Being 20 years old, I had never really cooked Thanksgiving dinner before but managed to figure out everything but the gravy. I made the gravy but it was very pale and it tasted good but to my way of thinking gravy should be brown. So when it got time to serve the dinner I decided to add a bit of food coloring to the gravy. How to make the color brown??? I added a bit of this color and that color and it turned a truly hideous and very unpalatable shade of grayish purple-brown. We ate it but there were a lot of strange looks around the table.

The Belgians were more surprised to see corn on the table. Over there, at the time, corn was used for pig food.

Of course now I know turkey gravy is not brown.
