Today I have been working on the upcoming events here at TheArmchairChef.com
We will be hosting a variety of Guest Chefs, providing Thanksgiving Leftover recipes and Pumpkin Pie recipes in honor of November 21, Pumpkin Pie Day.
In addition, I will be providing the Thanksgiving Menu from the November 1983 Gourmet Magazine. There were actually TWO provided that year, a Traditional Celebration and a Non-Traditional one. We’ll have BOTH here at TheArmchairChef.com.
On a more personal note, I had to fight the urge to visit our local Peddlers Mall in search of vintage cookbooks, but I have promised myself a trip out, later this week. Rest assured, I’ll report back on my finds! ;-)
Over at коли под наемILoveToBakePies.com, November is celebrating an Apple Pie Extravaganza, and believe me, I located some real winners, including some unusual Pie Crust Recipes. I ended up with more than 30 recipes so there is a new recipe every day, with some days featuring more than one recipe. I hope you’ll check it out!
Happy November!

November and December are busy months for those of us who like to cook and bake.
Here at TheArmchairChef.com, we will be celebrating Pumpkin Pie Day – November 21, recreating a Vintage Thanksgiving Menu from Gourmet Magazine – Issue November 1982, and enjoying Thanksgiving Leftover recipes from Guest Chefs.
Needlework Designer, Theresa Wentzler will be sharing her tips for baking with friends. She and her good friends have gotten together to bake LARGE batches of cookies for over 20 years!
I will be sharing an amusing, and delicious family recipe for Fruit Cake, and yes, it is more than edible… it is delicious! I plan to simply cut and paste Cousin Kate’s email with the recipe, so you can see all her amusing comments and asides! She and I, along with Cousin Eliza are called *The Triplets* and we are all avid cookbook readers! LOL We also have a love of color and we discovered a while back that all three of us had red rooms, but I’ll be writing about that on The Armchair Decorator! (Now that two out of three of us have moved in the last year, the red room fetish seems to have subsided.)
And… last but not least… I hope that you will join us for the 2nd Annual Holiday Bake Along, featuring favorite recipes and memories from folks in the Needlework and Quilting industries!

I am finally getting caught up. Once I get thru the TNNA Show at the end of this month, I’ll be able to break free more time to post here!
Last Saturday, I took the LOLs (Little Old Ladies – my Mom and her friend Edie) to the fleamarket. Imagine my surprise when I ran into my friend Sallie and her husband Bob. They were selling homemade Pimento Cheese spread and homemade BBQ sauce.
We bought both! The Pimento Cheese was the first REAL homemade I have had and it was WONDEFUL. Mom and I are already scheduling a trip to Trader’s Village this weekend to buy more.
The GOOD news is that their BBQ Sauce can be ordered online (and I can say that it is EXCELLENT also) I bought the mild version and it still has an attitude!. Here is their web site:

The BAD news is that you can only get the Pimento Cheese spread at the Flea Market!

I have been humming Christmas Carols all morning while working in the kitchen. ;-)
I was making my first attempt at a low carb, no trans fat home made version of Bisquick… using Carbalose Flour. It works like wheat flour but with 80% less carbs! Yippee!
I am baking the first recipe using my home made mix and will report back after further testing… I am QUITE hopeful!
Meanwhile, I am hoping to have some fun recipes for the Holidays to share with everybody.
Recently, Jeffrey stopped by the Spices section when grocery shopping… Always, dangerous, as I am sure you will agree!
He came home with a way cool new toy… a McCormick’s Peppercorn Medley Grinder. It has many different colored peppercorns and its own built-in grinder. How cool is that?!?
